Initial response

Clear owner-side coordination from the first call

  • Confirm what is known, what remains uncertain and who is already involved
  • Agree immediate owner-side actions without interfering with the Master’s command
  • Preserve records and align reporting with management, insurers, flag and class as required
  • Engage technical, insurance or legal specialists where appropriate
  • Maintain one current situation report and action log

Operational example

A generator repair arranged underway

  • A generator failed on passage towards Antarctica, far from yard support
  • The repair plan, parts, technicians and berth were arranged in southern Brazil while the yacht continued underway
  • The repair was completed without changing the expedition schedule

Standards & scope

Stabilise the situation and preserve the record

Owner-side support does not replace the Master’s command, statutory notifications, SAR or emergency services.

01

Immediate control

Protect life, prevent escalation, establish the vessel’s condition and set the next safe operational decision.

02

Evidence & reporting

Contemporaneous records, photographs, statements and technical data are preserved without obstructing any flag-state safety investigation.

03

Continuity

Owner, insurer, flag, class, management and advisers work from one verified situation report, with actions, owners and deadlines visible.

Common Questions

What happens in the first call?

You tell me what happened, where the vessel is and who is already involved. I establish the available facts, immediate owner-side priorities and reporting gaps, then agree the right support and a mobilisation target based on location, access and availability.

Do you work with our insurers or against them?

Constructively, while representing the owner’s operational interests. Clean documentation, disciplined preservation and a verified situation report help the owner, insurer and appointed specialists work from the same facts.

Does this replace the Master or emergency services?

No. The Master retains command and statutory emergency duties, and required SAR, flag-state and emergency notifications remain in force. My role is owner-side coordination, evidence and reporting, specialist alignment, and planning for operational continuity.
